We have won with my project proposal 2.6g 329m/s!! I hate these kind of events because I can’t stand the pressure. The uncertainty, expressing myself in words rather than with my work isn’t my strongest point. Standing on the stage in front of people, I realise by how smooth others handle the situation, that I am probably the only one in the entire room who is doing this for the first time, which made me even more nervous. I was glad I was standing next to Marcel Piët from the Forensic Genomics Consortium Netherlands who seemed to know what he was doing.

The DA4GA price was handed out by Robbert Dijkgraaf president of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. I love how the ‘trophy’ is made with a CNC machine from the fablab at the Waag Society which seems to be operated too fast, slightly burning the edges of the wood.

The two other winners were Maurizio Montalti and the Kluyver Centre for Genomics of Industrial Fermentation with project System Synthetics and Microscopic Opera from Matthijs Munnik and the Netherlands Consortium for Systems Biology.

Afterwards I had an interview with Liz Brower van NWT Online, the article can be found online: “Huid, nu ook kogelvrij”.
